At first, I got acquainted with the show in a dubbed version and was a bit disappointed as it did not live up to my expectations – jokes sounded weird and somewhat contrived. I got a whole new attitude immediately after I turned to watching this animated sitcom in English: the voices, the puns, the ideas – everything just felt right.
How come that those strangely looking characters got viral and kept the audience glued to the screens for 3 decades? A gripping plot? Witty remarks? Evolution of characters? Or maybe such popularity can be explained that we tend to laugh at Homer Simpson’s “wisdom” which is introduced in the mode of proof by contradiction.
